Saanjh Sakhi - A beautifully embroidered blackish grey Chanderi cotton-silk saree with vibrant pink and gold zari motifs that symbolizes the bonds of female friendship, especially in challenging times.

Some bonds are not forged in sunlight or celebration.

They are woven in the quiet of a shared twilight, in the space between a sigh and a comforting hand.

They are the strongest threads of all.

Saanjh Sakhi is that kind of bond.

A part of the Gul-e-Zameen collection, this blackish grey Chanderi cotton silk saree carries the profound strength of a friend who becomes a sanctuary. It is dark, yet light; silent, yet full of meaning—made for the woman whose loyalty is a quiet, unwavering flame.

✨ The Story Behind the Saree

History remembers Meera Bai as the mystic poet-princess of Mewar, who sang bhajans to Krishna and walked away from palaces, privilege, and expectations. But behind every Meera is someone like Chandrika — a companion who stayed.

Meera was born into the royal family of Kudki in Rajasthan and married into the Sisodia dynasty of Mewar, to Prince Bhojraj. Her devotion to Krishna began in childhood, and her refusal to conform to the roles of wife and daughter-in-law created unrest in the royal household. After Bhojraj's untimely death, Meera was expected to observe the rituals of widowhood. Instead, she sang. In temples. In streets. In defiance.

Her brother-in-law, Vikramaditya Singh, found her behavior scandalous. Historical accounts and Bhakti legends suggest that she was subjected to repeated attempts to silence her. Tales speak of her being sent a poisoned chalice, a basket with a snake disguised as a gift, and orders to stop her public devotion.

But Meera didn’t flinch. She sang on. But in the twilight (Saanjh) of her loneliest hours, when the palace walls felt like a prison and her love for the divine was deemed rebellion, there was another, quieter flame. Her name was Chandrika. She was Meera's Sakhi, her soul-friend. She was a presence that didn't add weight to Meera's burden. It was a soothing shadow, a cloak of understanding, not of oppression.

This saree is an ode to her—to Chandrika, and to every friend who stands by another in their darkest hour.
